Apply Trims Tutorial
Learn how to trim your videos with precision using our intuitive dual-slider interface. Remove unwanted sections and create polished content quickly.
What You'll Learn
1 Select Video to Trim
Navigate to your Klippers.ai dashboard and choose the video you want to trim. You can select from recently uploaded videos or browse your complete library by scrolling through the video list or using the search bar to locate a specific file.
The trimming tool works with all video formats and lengths. It is perfect for removing intros, outros, dead air, mistakes, or any unwanted sections. Your original video is never modified during the trimming process - Klippers always generates a new file, so you can experiment freely without risk.
2 Use Dual-Slider Interface
Use the dual-slider timeline interface to select the exact portion of video you want to keep. The timeline displays visual thumbnails from your video so you can see at a glance where each scene begins and ends.
- Left Handle - Drag to set the start time of your segment
- Right Handle - Drag to set the end time of your segment
- Timeline Preview - See visual thumbnails as you scrub through the video, making it easy to find the right frame
- Time Display - View precise timestamps in MM:SS format so you know exactly where each cut falls
- Zoom Controls - Zoom into the timeline for finer control when you need frame-level accuracy on longer videos
The interface provides frame-accurate selection, ensuring you capture exactly the content you want. For longer videos, use the zoom controls to expand a specific region of the timeline and place your handles with greater precision.
3 Add Trim Segment
Once you have selected your desired segment using the dual-slider, click the "Add Segment" button to save it to your trim list.
The segment will appear in the list below with its start and end times clearly displayed. Each entry in the segment list shows the duration of the clip and provides a delete button so you can remove it if you change your mind. You can add as many segments as needed - there is no limit.
Segments in the list can be reordered by deleting and re-adding them in the sequence you prefer. The final video will follow the exact order shown in your trim list.
4 Add Multiple Segments (Optional)
Repeat the process to add multiple segments from different parts of your video. This is useful for a wide range of editing scenarios:
- Highlight reels - Pull the best moments from a long recording into a single, punchy compilation
- Removing dead air - Cut out pauses, false starts, and filler so the finished video flows naturally
- Creating chapters - Extract specific sections like an intro, main content, and outro to publish separately or recombine in a new order
- Rearranging content - Select segments in any order to restructure your video for a different narrative flow
Segments will be combined in the order they appear in your trim list, creating smooth transitions between each section. There is no limit to the number of segments you can add.
5 Review Selected Trims
Review all your selected segments in the trim list before generating the final video. Each segment displays:
- Start time and end time
- Duration of the segment
- Preview thumbnail
- Delete button to remove unwanted segments
The total duration of your trimmed video is calculated automatically by adding up every segment in the list, so you always know the final length before you generate.
You can remove any segment by clicking the delete icon next to it. This will not affect your original video or other segments. Use the preview functionality to play back individual clips and confirm you have the right frames selected.
6 Generate Trimmed Video
Once you are satisfied with your segment selections, click the "Generate Trimmed Video" button. The system will:
- Combine all selected segments in the order listed
- Create smooth transitions between segments
- Preserve original video and audio quality - no re-encoding artifacts
- Generate a new downloadable video file
Processing typically takes 2 - 5 minutes depending on video length and number of segments. You will receive a notification when your trimmed video is ready to download. The output file retains the same resolution and bitrate as your source, so quality is never lost during the trim.
Best practices
-
1
Preview your video first
Watch through the entire video to identify exact timestamps before starting to trim. Knowing where each section begins and ends saves time and avoids unnecessary re-edits.
-
2
Cut at natural pauses
Make transitions smoother by trimming at scene changes or pauses in speech. This keeps the final video feeling seamless rather than abrupt.
-
3
Remove dead air and mistakes
Trim out long pauses, false starts, and errors for more polished content. Even small cuts can dramatically improve pacing.
-
4
Create dynamic pacing
Use multiple short segments to keep content moving and maintain viewer engagement. Varying clip lengths adds energy to the finished video.
-
5
Keep important context
Avoid trimming so aggressively that you lose necessary setup or explanations. Viewers need enough context to follow the narrative.
-
6
Test different versions
Create multiple trim variations to find the most engaging cut for your audience. Your original video is always preserved, so you can iterate as many times as you like.
Troubleshooting
Adjust segment boundaries to align with natural pauses or scene changes for smoother transitions.
Review your trim list before generating. You can always regenerate - the original video is never modified.
Delete and re-add segments in your desired sequence. The final video follows your trim list order.
Use the zoom controls for more precise views when setting trim points.
Make sure segments do not overlap and that start times are before end times. Check your storage space.
